Gibney Gets Going

The Outdoors for All Foundation has recently been making huge strides in reaching out to the blind and visually impaired communities, thanks to a grant received from the Gibney Family last November. The Gibney Family C.A.R.E.S. (Custom Adaptive Recreation Events by Outdoors for All) program is a three-year initiative designed to make the outdoors more accessible to children and adults who are blind or visually impaired.

Recent beneficiaries of the efforts include participants Becky Bell and Janelle Peterson who enjoyed riding various cycles at the STP Demo Day held at the University of Washington on July 10th. Maybe next year, we’ll catch them cruising down to Portland as well!

In addition, water-ski participants, Wendy David and Larry Showalter, have been braving and enjoying the cold waters of Lake Sammamish on Saturdays and Sundays in July.

Various Customized Group Events to serve those who are blind or visually impaired are also in the works at Outdoors for All.

Also as a result of the Gibney Family support, Outdoors for All is now able to offer participants post-event transportation to their home! Individuals who are blind or visually impaired may take advantage of this new service for just $3!

For more information about Outdoors for All’s new transportation service, or to learn more about how you can benefit from the Gibney Family grant, please contact our office at 425.462.0978.
