BROOKS AHLFENGER
Brooks joined Outdoors for All in September of 2009 as the VISTA Volunteer Coordinator through Sound Youth/Notre Dame AmeriCorps. Brooks was born in Denver, Colorado, so the mountains are nothing new to him but are always a source of excitement. Road trips were a staple in is youth, from Alberta to Texas and back. Backpacking, rafting, rock climbing, skiing and La Crosse weren’t the only things that occupied his youth, but the only ones worth remembering. Even in college, he spent his winter breaks working at Eldora Mountain, a small family owned ski-resort just up the canyon from Boulder.
Brooks graduated from Hanover College, Indiana with a BA in Art History. It was here that he was able to hone in on his other passion, helping numerous great causes by organizing fundraisers for AIDS research and local causes including the House of Ruth in Louisville, KY. Along with driving from Colorado to Indiana several times a year, Brooks’ road trip resume got much use on student lead trips to Boston, D.C. and New Mexico.
Although new to the northwest coast and Outdoors for All, Brooks couldn’t be happier then facing the challenges of a new city and the rewards of being a part of such a great organization. Brooks hopes to grow into his new community and be active in helping others climb their own mountains, literally and figuratively.
